caren van herwaarden

sculptures

In recent years, van Herwaarden regularly produces images of fabric, usually she incorporates them into her drawings. The reason for this was a pile of old sheets from her mother, she use to give her daughter old sheets and towels to use as a polishing cloth in her studio. When het mother died in 2012, van Herwaarden received a pile of sheets from the nursing home. That pile went down because of use, then she started making small figurines of the paint-stained rags. She dipped them into starch and wrapped them into a sculpture: '... it is a form of emotional recycling for me ...'
